Which is better for construction, aerated concrete or brick

It is difficult to assess the feasibility of building from these materials without assessing their strengths and weaknesses. Everyone knows that bricks have been used since ancient times. There is no need to talk about the strength of this material, because brick structures from more than ten years ago have survived today. But building a good home doesn’t just have to be about the durability of the building materials. It can withstand over 100 years, but at the same time it makes the room cold and uncomfortable. An important point for the buyer concerns the cost of materials. Weight and density

According to this indicator, bricks can be silicate or ceramic, hollow or solid, so the materials can be different. Gas blocks also vary in density, which affects weight, strength, and thermal conductivity. Therefore, when considering this issue, we will consider averages.

Bricks are on average three times heavier and denser than porous aerated concrete. Solid ceramic bricks have a density of up to 1900 kg/m3, while aerated concrete blocks have a density of only 600 kg/m3. A brick wall will therefore weigh at least three times more than an aerated concrete building of similar dimensions.

What is warmer brick or aerated concrete – thermal conductivity indicator

During the heating season, the owner’s job is to keep warm. In situations where developers are still in the early stages of construction, it is important to determine which materials have better thermal conductivity. Building documents state that the exterior walls must be 200 centimeters thick to retain heat in a brick building. This is a reliable building, but such construction will be long and unprofitable. Most often the walls are made with a thickness of 40-50 centimeters. Insulation is used to fill missing portions of walls.

In this regard, gas blocks are warmer. For areas with temperate climates, a 40-centimeter-thick outer wall is sufficient. Also, various materials are used for exterior finishes to protect against precipitation.

Degree of water absorption and cold resistance

When comparing building materials, it is important to assess the degree of cold resistance. This calculation takes into account the number of freeze-thaw cycles a building material can withstand before it loses 5% strength. Considering brick brands, this material withstands 35-150 cycles, but for gas blocks, this figure is about 100 cycles. Gas block buildings are built in humid, dry or temperate climates. Freezing reduces the durability of any material, but at the same time, cellular concrete initially has a lower safety margin.
